Mercedes froze a 1979 G Class SUV in time forever. They used 44.4 tons of synthetic resin to show their car is stronger than time This was used to attract the crowd at the 2018 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit earlier this month.
The 2018 G-Class vehicle was released at the event and the frozen predecessor was used to attract the customers. The latest version of the vehicle has the same style as the predecessor but has an array of modern features and technologies.
The 1979 G Class SUV is the largest display of synthetic resin in the world. The car sits at an adventurous angle inside the amber block and reminds me a little of Jurrasic Park. Mercedes says that the reason for making the resin was to show that: Like their genetic material the DNA of the first G-Class has also been preserved and is handed down from generation to generation. These genes are also in the new G-Class and they are carrying through the characteristic properties of the longest-lived model series from Mercedes-Benz into modern times: an iconic design, indestructible superiority off the beaten track and exceptional ride comfort on the road.
It took 90 days to make the amber colored block. The block is 5.5 meters in length, 2.55 meters in width, and 3.1 meters in height. 44.4 tons of synthetic resin was used in its making. Now that it has debuted in Detroit, the resin will be traveling to other locations for the launch event of 2018 G-Class.
