What Language Do Computer Use?

Nowadays everyone in the world uses a computer or laptop. But have you wondered which languages do they use to work? They don’t have any language like English, french or german. The language which is used by computers is Binary language which has only two numbers in it that are 0 and 1. Yes, that’s true your whole computer work on these two digits. For example, if you press yes it will be denoted as 1, and if no it will be denoted as 0 in the computer language. So. let’s start with, What language does the computer use?


Binary Language

Every electronic device such as a computer stores its data in the form of 0 and 1. This is called binary machine or binary language. But have you ever wondered why do these binary digits have numbers like 2, 3, 4, 5, or etc? This is because

In binary language 0 is denoted as off whereas 1 is denoted as on. For example, you can take a bulb. A bulb can either be on (1) or off (0). So, the bulb cannot half glow it’s just on or off. So, that’s the reason that there is no other number in a binary language such as 2, 3, 4, etc. The binary number simply represents the state.

It is an obvious thing that computers can’t understand human language which was found before computers only. So we humans created a binary language that can be used by computers. Data is in many different forms such as videos, photos, gifs, audio, etc. So all these are converted to binary language. By the way, do you know that thing that converts these advanced languages to binary language? It’s called an interpreter who converts this language to the computer language. What is 0 and 1 in computer?

The computer is an electronic device made up of electronic circuits, and those circuits can either pass the electricity or don’t, apart from that it can do nothing. So here, theoretically passing of electricity is 1 and not passing is 0, but how can a circuit detects not passing of electricity? so generally there will be some voltage for 1 (high) and some lower voltage for 0 (low). When every high voltage is passed it’s 1 and another one is 0.

How can information be stored in ones and zeroes ?

Since there are only 2 possible values for a binary digit, it looks rather different from our standard decimal system that uses Ten different values (0–9). A binary digits’ weight increases by powers of 2, rather than by powers of 10. In a digital numeral, the digit furthest to the right is the “ones” digit; the next digit to the left is the “twos” digit; next comes the “fours” digit, then the “eights” digit, then the “16s” digit, then the “32s” digit, and so on. The decimal equivalent of a binary number can be found by summing all the digits.

For other characters and letters, it gets slightly more complicated. The computer compares the values to previously defined tables (ASCII for example) and decodes the values accordingly.
